A first-time event to celebrate the nation’s birthday is scheduled Friday through Sunday in London Bridge Beach Park next to the dog park on the Island and will feature fireworks, live music, food and beer. The event hours will be 1-10 p.m. all weekend.
“We will have two 20-minute fireworks shows on Friday and Saturday,” said Steve Astorga, Lake Havasu Events Co. organizer for the Fourth of July Lake Havasu Festival.
The three-day event will feature 70s classic rock music with bands like Classic Old School and Badd Apple and a live DJ on the playbill.
The festival’s food vendors include Two Guys Pasta & Pizza, Off the Grill, Desert Snow & Ice Cream, Dan D Dawgs and a snow cone vendor that will benefit a local girls softball team buying new uniforms.
The beer gardens are permitted and organized by Tri-state Wheelers, a local nonprofit off-road club based in Lake Havasu City. The club is one of two local organizations being considered to benefit from the event’s proceeds.
“We want to sit down and really research this,” said Randy Rizzi, president of Tri-state Wheelers and owner of R&R Products. Rizzi said he would like to see the off-road club designate the donated proceeds to fill a void somehow in the community.
During the three-day event, there will be several high-end boats and “side-by-side” all-terrain vehicles on display, Rizzi said.
Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team is also currently being considered for a portion of the proceeds. Although the search and rescue force is not a nonprofit organization, it does operate on a volunteer basis with many training expenses paid exclusive of the sheriff’s office funding, Astorga said. Equipment such as radios and rope used for training purposes would be earmarked as possible purchases with the donated funds, he said.
