Canadian Club

Lake Havasu City residents will start noticing some men and women, who happen to be Canadians, wearing white shirts bearing a logo of American and Canadian flags, crossed in a sign of across-border friendship. If you look at the logo closer you will see the words “Canadian Club” above the flags, and  “Friends of Lake Havasu City” beneath the flags.

The seeds of the Canadian Club were planted in October 2010 by a couple from British Columbia who were aware of the significant number of Canadians who had selected Havasu as their winter destination, and in many cases like themselves, their winter home. They made a point of meeting other Canadians, exchanging email addresses and eventually forming new friendships. These friends concluded that it would be fun to have a club that would provide others with an opportunity to meet people who winter here from across Canada, and to enjoy social events together. This January, those seeds of The Canadian Club took root.

The Canadian Club is informal, so while most clubs have formal memberships, you could say this club consists of “friends”. Promoted through word-of-mouth, the Sunday Swap Meet, and the lakehavasu.ca website, the club has burgeoned to about 300 Canadian friends and continues to grow. Many of these friends own residences here while many others are repeat seasonal renters, and they all have a strong sense of appreciation for this community. The club maintains contact with friends primarily through emails and weekly Wednesday morning coffee meetings that have been held at Schlotzsky’s  Havasu SkyBox (1540 S. Palo Verde).

The aim of the Club is to provide the opportunity for fellow snowbirds to make new personal friendships and to participate in group activities such as golf, hiking, hockey nights, and bus excursions just to name a few.
