Eighteen of us met at 9:00 AM in the 2nd Sara Park entrance (2 blocks up from the main parking lot / across from the Sterling Field sign). We walked for approximately 3 hours and according to Laurette’s pedometer, we hiked a total of about 5 miles. The weather was perfect and we all enjoyed the opportunity to chit-chat and get to know each other a little better.

The goal of this particular hike was to do the ‘Arch Rock Loop’ trail and to find ‘The Arch’ … unfortunately the trail does not have any markers or signs whatsoever and the map that was obtained from Tourist Information Office did not provide enough information for us to follow it easily. About half of the group chose to stay on the main wash and were not able to actually see the arch, while the other (more adventurous hikers) separated from the group and braved a different trail which leads them to the spot from which they could see the arch. Both groups had a great time and were happy to have chosen the paths that they did.

So here is a note to any of you wanting to venture out on your own for the first time: try to take someone with you that knows these trails and if you attempt it alone do not put too much reliance on the map; take supplies (first-aid / water / snacks / flashlight / phone / GPS / etc.).

Six of the Canadian Club members left before we were able to take the group picture at the end. We ended this outing by enjoying some food and refreshments at Maddogs Bar and Grill.

Great group! Thanks for organizing this trip Terry & Laverne, Bill & Laurette.

(more pictures will be added as members of this group send them to me).
